Fellowship Baptists serve as advocates for social justice and religious freedom. In places such as Africa and Southeast Asia, they are ministering to those who are persecuted for their faith.

Individuals, churches and partner organizations are also working together to address a number of issues around the world – human trafficking, war and genocide, women's rights, child labor and reconciliation.

Allen and I will be sharing what CBF FP are doing to educate people and combat human trafficking at FBC Evans, GA.  I am grateful for a congregation that desires to learn about trafficking and pray they will allow God to move them into action.

It's on the news that thousands of prostitutes (trafficked) are being brought in for the Superbowl.  A new "gentlemen's" club has opened right outside the DFW airport.  Because the city refused to give them a liquor license, they have the right to have totally nude dancers.  Something doesn't make sense here!

The Freedom Summit  in Fremont, California was fabulous!  The speakers inspired us to find passion in our involvement as well as see Biblical meaning and direction as well as seek God's calling and ultimate goal to not only end slavery, but to bring those out of slavery to Him.  People responded so well at this conference!  There was about 1700 people that attended - the largest conference on the West Coast!

One of the most significan things that resulted was a collaborative formed of pastors, missions directors, and lay leaders to work together to see how they can help end human trafficking in the Bay Area.  Praise God!  I will be joining them, as we seek to gather and produce tools to help non-involved churches join the movement.

For more information on what went on at the Freedom Summit, go to freedom-summit.org/2011.

Lita Sample, CBF Field Personnel, shares about Justice and Peace-making:

Recently, I went to the Not for Sale Global Forum on Human Trafficking, and have connected with some really terrific people and organizations. Right now I am working toward a conference on human trafficking that is offered to churches. It is called "Freedom Summit". It is being held in Fremont, California, January 21-22, 2011. Although this summit has been held a few years ago, it wasn't in our immediate area. We are blessed to have it in Fremont.

We have several goals
1. Advertise this conference to churches this opportunity to know more about how they can be involved (using past church connections already)
2. Have a table there, offering church involvement packets - that include such things as what resources are out there for churches; how to do a prayer walk in their area; how to have a prayer wall; sermons, brief sharing in church about human trafficking; scripture; Bible study; how to start a group in your church; as well as connecting with organizations
3. Connect volunteers for the table to connect with churches as well as the conference
4. Connect organizations to this conference, like Home Foundation (Natalie Grant), and Oasis.
5. Volunteer to help with the conference.

So, as I prepare with others for this upcoming conference, we are working on things to include in the packet (listed above). We are also working toward having website resources for GCC churches. Our focus is trying to connect GCC Churches / Christian organizations / Christian resources to help the church be part of the movement to help stop human trafficking in the US as well as in the world.

She is still alive . . . somehow. No one is sure how. Her hair is nestled in a glass case in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Nearly all of it fell out in late August of 1945 as her mother brushed it just shortly after the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima. She was eighteen years old on the day the bomb fell and she and her younger brother dug themselves out from under their collapsed home. She was burned severely. Both suffered extensively from radiation poison after the bombing. He died. She somehow survived and has lived another 65 years and counting.

Somehow her hair found its way into the museum where I saw it today. It was a tough morning, to be perfectly honest, and it all was summed up for me in this clump of hair that had fallen out of the head of an 18 year old girl. Apparently her mother kept it because she assumed her daughter would soon be dead and she wanted to remember her--to somehow keep her close.

I have tried to imagine the moment. A mother is brushing her child's hair. Most all of us have either brushed a child's hair or had our hair brushed. It is a shared human experience--intimate and loving.
Suddenly this mother notices that something is wrong. She brushes out clumpfuls of hair until just a small ridge on the forehead is left. She covers her mouth in horror, traumatized that, at just the moment that her 18 year old daughter should have been enjoying the beauty of youth and the joy of life, her hair is falling out.

The young girl's name was Hiroko Yamashita and she is still alive today and a member of the Hiroshima Baptist Church where I will speak tonight. Her pastor tells me that she now lives in a nursing home.
For me, she represents hope in the midst of the ultimate hopelessness.

We human beings are pretty frail creatures when it comes to atomic bombs. We don't stand up well against them. This woman did. She lost her hair but not her life. And she gives me hope that we truly are stronger than the violence and hatred that marks our world and that somehow, in the long run, we will overcome it.

UCO (Ujala Christian Organization)
(Ujala Christian Organization)Ujala(A-NIGHT-FALL)

Our goals are to help ease the suffering endured by persecuted Christians at
the hands of the religious extreme fundamentalists and to work to restore a
peace between the peoples. We also do what we can to educate the poor, to
give them strength and hope to carry out their lives.
Ujala Christian Organization wants to help to educate the young children in
reading, writing and arithmetic. We want to see them grow up educated and
ready to face any challenge life may throw their way. We also want to see
their parents and the elderly benefit from the Holy Scriptures being read in
their homes to give them strength and courage to face the day. We are
confident that we can return pride back to those who have lost everything,
just because they long to serve Jesus Christ.
Jesus commanded us with the beatitudes to care for those less fortunate than
us. It is not enough to see the scourge of Satan across the backs of the
hurting, but to do something about it. Join with us, and we will change what
we can together!
