CBF field personnel, churches and partners are involved in ministries to internationals — refugees, immigrants, international students. They are helping to meet not only the physical needs, but also the emotional and physical needs, as newcomers search for a sense of safety and place of belonging. Fellowship Baptists are welcoming the stranger and offering hospitality to those who are often lonely, overwhelmed and seeking better life.

"In their new country, new situation, and with new found friends, [internationals] can hear a clear presentation of God's love through believers’ actions and words," said Shelah Acker, one of CBF’s field personnel. "Imagine how amazing it would be if the first people to reach out to [internationals] when they arrived in a new land were Christians demonstrating the love of Christ.”

Thanks Nell, for recommending the document.  It is helpful in its summary of US immigration law.  the Biblical themes are important to note in speaking engagements and conversations.

Thought the report on immigrartion listed below is long, I found it very informational and appreciated the biblical insights toward the end.. I too would concur with one's musing over this document..

Church's response to immigration I came across this article posted by someone in a conversation with the Lausanne Movement. It gives an overview regarding immigration in the US and canada but then gives the Biblical perspective. You might find it helpful as you prepare for speaking/preaching, etc

Status of Multiculturalism in Europe The link takes you to a series of articles regarding the success (or perceived failure) of multi-culturalism in Western Europe. As many of us examine this phenomenon in the North America as well, it may help us to understand what has occured in other places.

Migration Out of Poverty is a great site related to migration trends.

We all have had various experiences with bus ministries. Many churches have in the past and/or continue to pick up children and adults who lack transportation to attend worship services and other church functions.
Today, as globalization and the various diaspora movements continue to transform our world, new and creative paradigm shifts are necessary. Dr. Enoch Wan shared one of these innovative changes at the Lausanne Movement, Capetown 2010. In a high security area, a small group of believers has started a “bus church”. Every Saturday, they hire a tourist bus for two hours. While driving around the city they worship, sing, teach, even give an offering and don’t have to worry about renting a facility with all of the security concerns that holds. Dr. Wan said the only thing they couldn’t do was baptize! One member of the group was able to acquire a tourist bus driver’s license, so they don’t even have to worry about the driver. Apparently, today there are three “bus churches” winding through the city every Saturday worshipping our Lord.
Changes are coming. Church for this globalized world may be very different. That’s ok and even exciting to think about. No longer can I think of a bus just for transportation sake, but now it can be for worship as well. I pray that there will be many more “bus churches” as well as other innovative ways of worshipping and serving our Lord in this new world of ours.

Hey everyone, some suggested reading if you are interested in some "non- western" perspectives on the Bible. I am finding that these books are helping me learn to communicate my faith in a multi-cultural environment.

The books are:

Other Ways of Reading: African Women and the Bible (Global Perspectives on Biblical Scholarship) by Musa Dube

Postcolonial Feminist Interpretation of the Bible by Musa Dube

Return to Babel: Global Perspectives on the Bible by John R. Levison

You can find them at Amazon.

The recent Lausanne Movement Capetown 2010 event has now posted videos of the sessions. Several deal with the diaspora, world religions, and urban ministry. http://conversation.lausanne.org/en
